Watch Bump Transition Video

The "bump" move I discuss both here on the website and in my book, "The Rotary Swing", is something that I constantly get questions on both what it is and how to do it. In this video, I use an uploaded student's swing (upload your swing here) from the 21-30 handicap group to show a very common swing fault that robs the golfer of accuracy and effortless power in the golf swing. The student misses the transition largely due to the way he took the club back, essentially making it impossible for him to use his legs to power the downswing. Apart from powering the downswing, the "bump" transition is also the key move that allows the golfer to bring the club down on plane and keep his or her hands leading the club through impact. This is a key to accuracy so this bump transition is clearly not just for power.

Using Tiger Woods as an example in this video, you will be able to clearly see just how much lateral movement is required during the transition in order to properly set the weight on the left foot while clearing the hips as well. Even in a one plane or Rotary Swing, there MUST be some lateral movement during the transition and you'll see the problems the student has in his swing for not having any lateral movement in the video.

As Tiger Woods comes down into impact, his hip has moved laterally approximately 5 inches from where it was at address.
